I arrived to look at a new mini split system that was installed two days ago. Customer complaint that it wasn’t cooling enough upstairs. I had both units on downstairs. I had a 20° split upstairs had about a 10 to 12 split went to the outdoor unit. It was frosting up . I checked my wiring the wiring didn’t look like it was crossed, and when I did run them individually the units, I could feel the lines to coordinate with the powered wires. I had 66 suction on the second floor system and 86 suction on the lower level was 275 so I had a suction saturation of 17 and saturation discharge of 94 low charge. One line is about 80 feet the other one is about 25 foot. We have 2 guys going out tomorrow to pull the charge and check for leaks.

Customers cooling setpoint is 78° during day and he drops it to 76° overnight.
Humidity stays at 60% as read by Ecobee thermostat.
Noticed thermostat was displaying humidity of 64% but my psychrometer was reading 54%
I took thermostat off and put back on. It went through an 8 min calibration and thermostat reading close to my psychrometer now.

I started by setting “AC Overcool Max” on Ecobee to 2°
Then selected “Dehumidify using AC” and set target to 54%. Effectively this will run the AC and overcool 2° beyond the setpoint in the interest of getting humidity down to 54%. We are telling the equipment “continue to run the AC to dehumidify”

Also enabled accelerated cooling/heating at outdoor control and diaboled adaptive capacity. This will result in the indoor coil temperature dropping quicker thereby increasing dehumidification.

Fan Speeds:
1134 CFM in 1st Stage
1288 CFM in 2nd Stage. Good

Temperature split 20.5° Good

The humidity could be related to a building performance issue.
